What Is Trauma-Sensitive Yoga?
Trauma-sensitive yoga combines accessible yoga practices with an understanding of how stress and trauma may affect the body and nervous system. Instead of focusing on achieving a particular posture, the practice emphasizes noticing, choice and personal experience.
The intention is not to force relaxation or make difficult feelings disappear or practice crazy yoga poses. It is to create opportunities to experience support, make choices and gradually develop a more trusting relationship with the body.
Trauma-sensitive yoga can complement psychological, psychiatric or medical care, but it is not a replacement for these forms of treatment.
You may explore:

Movement and Breath
Accessible movement and breath awareness, without requiring a particular breathing pattern.

Grounding and Support
Contact with the floor, wall or chair, and different forms of physical support.

Rest and Awareness
Rest, and gentle awareness of sensations in the body.
What Happens During a Meeting?
Each meeting follows a clear and generally consistent structure. At the beginning of the class, I will explain what we are going to do.
A meeting may include:
• Orienting to the room and the present moment
• Simple grounding practices
• Accessible movements while lying down, sitting or standing
• Exploring contact with the floor, wall, chair or other forms of support
• Breath awareness, without requiring a particular breathing pattern
• Opportunities to notice physical sensations
• A gradual transition towards rest
• A clear ending before leaving the room
The practice is not designed as a physically demanding yoga workout. Movements will be adaptable, and alternatives will be offered based on your choice and abilities.
You Remain in Control
Choice is an important part of trauma-sensitive yoga. During the meetings:
• You may choose whether or not to do a movement.
• You may change your position or move differently.
• You may pause or rest.
• You may keep your eyes open.
• You will not be asked to describe your traumatic experiences.
• There will be no pressure to share personal information.
• There will be no unexpected physical contact or hands-on correction.
• You do not need to be flexible or experienced in yoga.
• You may ask questions before the program or during the process.
"There is no correct way to feel during the practice. You are invited to notice your own experience and make choices based on what you sense."
Every practice is an invitation.
Why a 10-Week Program?
Predictability and continuity can be especially important when the nervous system has been under prolonged stress.
The program consists of the same small group meeting once a week for 10 weeks. The gradual structure allows participants to become familiar with the setting, the practice and one another without needing to start again each week.
Registration involves a commitment to the complete 10-week program. If you cannot attend a particular meeting, please let me know in advance whenever possible.
What Should I Bring?
Please wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move and breathe easily.
If you have your own yoga mat, please bring it. If you do not have one, the studio supplies.
The studio provides all other equipment required for the practice. You do not need to purchase any special equipment.
Free street parking is available near the studio.
How Does Registration Work?
Five steps and no surprises. You can stop at any point before step 4. Payment is only requested once we have both agreed the group is right for you.
1. Send an Expression of Interest
Complete the registration form below or email triinuyoga@gmail.com.
Please tell me which group you are interested in and your preferred meeting time.
Registration begins with an expression of interest and does not require immediate payment.
2. Complete the Health and Intake Form
I will contact you by WhatsApp and send you a confidential health and intake form. It includes relevant questions about your health, current needs, and anything that may help me make the practice more appropriate for you. It takes up to 5 minutes to fill it in.
3. Have a Private Introductory Call
We will arrange a private 20-minute telephone or video call.
During the call:
-
I will introduce myself and the program. I will explain what happens during the meetings.
-
We will briefly review relevant health information.
-
We will discuss what you are looking for from the program. You can ask any questions.
-
We will consider together whether the group setting is appropriate for you if needed. In some cases, I may recommend beginning with individual 1:1 sessions rather than joining the group, if this appears more appropriate for your current needs.
-
You will receive the studio address and arrival information.
-
You will not be asked to tell your trauma story or disclose personal experiences in detail.
-
The call is not a diagnostic or therapeutic assessment.

4. Group Confirmation and Policy Acceptance
Once the relevant group and its meeting day have been confirmed, you will be invited to complete your registration:
-
Read the Group Policy on this page
-
Make sure that you understand and accept the policy. The payment itself gives the confirmation of the policy
-
Pay the full program fee by website or directly to Triinu
Registration is confirmed only after you accept the policy and we receive full payment.
5. Program Begins
Before the program begins, you will receive the complete list of 10 meeting dates and confirmation of your group and its weekly meeting time.
No payment is requested until step 4, after we have both agreed that the group is right for you.
